Tom is an architect and design advocate with the international architecture practice of HDR Architecture. Tom serves as a Design Director and Principal leading the firms Great Plains Studio(s). He holds degrees in Architecture and Awork includes Grand Island Regional Hospital, Focal Point Community Campus and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL. Author of a 2019 Design Fellowship, entitled “Rural Resolve - Imagining the Future of Health and Wellbeing of Small Communities.” This fellowship was an in-depth study of how rural communities can save their local hospitals through non-traditional program pairings and design techniques. He currently leads the design curriculum for Unicameral Design magazine staff.

Chloe Martinez
Associate EditorChloe was a design coordinator at HDR and an associate editor of the Unicameral Magazine Volume 3. In May 2024, she graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Design: Architecture and just started her pursuit of a Masters of Architecture at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Olivia Hordvik
Associate EditorOlivia held a role as an associate editor for Unicameral Design Magazine Volume 3 and served as a design coordinator at HDR Omaha. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning a Bachelor of Science in Design: Architecture and just started her journey towards a Masters of Architecture degree at the University of Colorado-Denver.
Encarnita Rivera
Art DirectorEncarnita Rivera has been the driving creative force behind Unicameral Magazine for the past three volumes, serving as Art Director with unmatched vision and dedication. Encarnita is a highly talented graphic designer and editor based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her refined design sensibility was shaped by her studies at the Art Institute of Colorado and the School of Visual Arts. Her client list include; Architectural Record, HDR, Los Alamos National Laboratory, The Cooper Union, The New York Times, Travel & Leisure Magazine, Two Twelve Associates, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Beyond her own practice, Encarnita has invested deeply in education, co-teaching the Unicameral Graduate course in the spring semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her most rewarding part of her work with Unicameral has been experiencing the diverse thought processes behind students’ design work and celebrating forward-looking design in the Midwest. As she steps away from her role as Art Director, her influence and mentorship remain embedded in the DNA of the publication.

Associate Art Director
Paige is a licensed architect and an Associate Art Director for the Unicameral Magazine. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Columbia University bringing an exceptional background in architecture, editorial work, and publication design. She first discovered her passion for publication design during her gap year at HDR, collaborating with in-house designers on Opacity, the firm’s annual showcase of jury-selected projects. Paige deepened her focus as Associate Editor for GSAPP’s Abstract, an annual publication highlighting student work and events. Outside the studio, she is an avid traveler and loves to hike and bake.
